Like any role-playing game, BIAS RPG has many intelligent races, some of which game masters may or may not allow players to choose for their character. The base player character (PC) races are human, ælf, dwarf, gnome, and nubbin. Descriptions of each of these are given below.
- Human – Humans are the dominate race in the game. This decision is based on the assumption that the vast majority of players will be humans, and thus familiar with their basic capabilities, sociology, psychology, and physiology. Humans are considered the standard to which all other races (and creatures) are compared. All base attributes, Strength, Agility, Endurance, Intelligence, Sense, and Presence, will be 0 for the average human and have a normal min/max range from -5 to +5.
- Ælf – Ælves are tall, thin nature living humanoids. They have sharp features, pointed ears and eyes, and see as well at night as they do in the day. Ælves have their own language, with each sub-race having slightly variant dialects. Sub-races of ælves are tundra, forest, jungle, desert, lake, river, sea, plains, mountain, and cavern. Ælves do not age once they reach adulthood at about 110 years. The first 110 years of an ælf life sees them age similar to the first 22 years of a human….thus at about 1/5 the speed of a human. Ælves have less strength and are less hardy than humans, but are more agile and have a stronger presence.
- Dwarf – Dwarves are a subterranean race. Strong, hardy, and faithful, they are also very warlike. They work metal and stone, making both beautiful artworks and durable tools from both. Dwarves are shorter than humans, seldom being much more than four feet in height, despite weighing as much as a full grown human. Their physique makes them less agile than humans and they are generally less intelligent. They can see in total darkness as well as a human can see in full daylight. However, in full daylight they see like a human does at night. Dwarves live about 500 years. Dwarves have their own language, which they fiercely guard form other races.
- Gnome – Gnomes are smaller, surface dwelling cousins of the dwarves. Where dwarves are masters of stone and metal, gnomes favor intricate, technical work. They tinker and invent things, do intricate carving in gemstones, wood, ivory, and any other material suitable for the purpose. They average about 2 feet in height and are often on the chubby side. Like the dwarves, they have long hair and mustaches, but never have beards. They are opposite their dwarven cousins in attitude, being jovial and lovers of pranks, peaceful and in harmony with nature. Their lifespans are similar to that of their larger cousins.
- Half-man – Half-men are exactly what their name implies, half human/half something else. PC half-men can be half-ælf, half-dwarf, half-gnome, and half-nubbin, at the game master’s discretion. All half-men are infertile, unable to reproduce. They have some of the characteristics and abilities of both of their parent races, although to a lesser degree.
- Nubbin – Nubbin are small, normally two-and-a-half to three feet in height, humanoid race who live among humans, having no lands of their own. Nubbin are collectors of all things, from worthless trinkets to valuable artifacts. Nubbin are clever, capable opportunists. Nubbin individuals and clans find room for themselves wherever they can. Often they are strangers and wanderers, and others react to them with suspicion or curiosity. Depending on the clan, nubbin might be reliable, hard-working (if clannish) citizens, or they might be thieves just waiting for the opportunity to make a big score and disappear in the dead of night. Regardless, nubbin are cunning, resourceful survivors.
